Personal Interests What girl does not like to shop? I am definitely not an exception! Two of my favorite places to shop are Victoria's Secret and BeBe's. In addition to shopping, I also spend a lot of time with my Yorkshire Terrier, Chloe. She is 2 years old and just made it to 3lbs! This is Chloe: I also love to read books, when I have the time. Right now, I am into James Patterson books. (I love Alex Cross!) The Official James Patterson Website has information about him and his books. I have been skiing since I was in second grade. Every year my family and I go to Canaan Valley and Timberline in Tucker County, WV. If you like to ski, check out Ski the Valley. Fun Stuff This has got to be, by far, the most fun site, to me. It is dedicated to all the Jennifer's out there! The Rules of Jen are hilarious..& totally describe me! The easiest way to find them is to go to Frequently Asked Questions. Check out Jencyclopaedia. When I have some free time online, sometimes I like to take fun quizzes, like "Who is your inner rock star?". Wanna take some quizzes? Click Emode FUN. Since you read above that I love Yorkies, I found this really cute site that tells about Smoky, a 4lb Yorkie, who ended up being a war hero in World War II. There's a book about him. Check out Smoky. If you like Karoke you will love Karaoke Cam. To see people acting like idiots tune in in the early morning hours! Discipline Specific "Stuff" ASHA is an acronym standing for the America Speech Language and Hearing Association. ASHA's mission is to make sure that everyone with a communication disorder receives service. This site is very useful not only to SLPs and Audiologists, but also to students and the general public. There is important information for professionals, like continuing education and upcoming conventions, but also topics that will interest the general public, like "How common is hearing loss?" Another site that I have found very useful in my studies of Sign Language is ASL from MSU . This is an American Sign Language Browser (ASL) from the folks at Michigian State University. It's great if you need to know a sign. You just go to the mini directory, click on a word, and a woman shows you how to make the sign. This site will also teach you ASL syntax. Another site that might be of interest for SLPs is SLP Websites. This site contains lots of links to good sites related to Communication Disorders. The links are organized by topic. This site received three awards; two in 1998 and one in 2000. Research Resources I am researching how people perceive the speech produced by an artificial larynx. Speech Options after a Laryngectomy is an excellent site created by Caroline Mitchell and Emily Moretz. This site contains information on a SLPs involvement with the patient before and after the laryngectomy, as well as the different options for speech. There are also great pictures of the larynx, good descriptions of each of the three options, and additional assistive devices. Another neat and interesting site, Larynx Link, was created by the International Association of Laryngectomees. That is a club whose members have had laryngectomies. This site is informative, containing health articles and tips, but it also has a link to the poet's corner, which contains writing from various laryngectomees. There are even links to laryngectomees websites! Voice Rehab. is an informative site that discusses the options that are available to a client after a total laryngectomy. Electrolarynx (AKA artificial larynx), espohageal voice, and TE-voice area all discussed as possible rehabilitation options. There are also detailed pictures of a normal larynx as well as post laryngectomy. Web Whispers is a great site I just discovered. This site is affiliated with the International Association of Laryngectomees. It is recommended by Medinex, the American Academy of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery, and the Yul Brynner Head and Neck Cancer Foundation. Information is provided about the different types of artificial larynges and even lets you hear a speech sample from some of the different devices. Another site I found to be helpful was Reprints. Here, there are a few articles about laryngectomees and artificial larynges that were reprinted from journals or other sources with the authors' permission. Information ranges from current trends in artificial larynges to finding that sweet spot. While developing my Multigenre Research Paper, I discovered a site that helped me write a referral letter from a doctor's point of view. HEALTH PRO was a good example to follow. The organization that has published this sample letter is an insurance agency called CNA. Other Stuff I also attend Marshall University, Home of the Thundering Herd, which is in Huntington,WV. Check out GO HERD! for more information on MU. This fall, I will be the president of NSSLHA at Marshall University. Just created this page so our members will know what is new. It is still under construction! ... Link |
